I am so excited for our 2nd of 4-part series on Christmas traditions. This one is especially close to our heart. Did you know that when a child starts Kindergarten they have a 100% interest level in reading but by 4th grade that interest in reading outside of school drops to 54% according to the The Read-Aloud Handbook. So we especially think that reading should be a part of the busy holiday, at any age.
We have decided to do the 12 Books of Christmas. We have 12 books wrapped under our tree, and for the 12 days before Christmas (that starts Monday this year!) Lydi will get to open a book before bed as her nightly storybook. We are still working on building our collection, so most of ours are new (I've kept my eyes peeled for good deals) but you could also wrap 12 books you already have. Little ones will love it all the same.
I also decided to put together a list of some our must have books for the year. These are some of the ones we got Lydia and Gus, plus some classics that are great this time of year. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
