It's here, my favorite time of the year! This week kicks off the first of four weeks of Christmas activities. How the Grinch Stole Christmas puts a fun twist on the classic Christmas story. We chose some fun activities for any little who!
What You'll Need:
- Cornstarch and Green Food Coloring
- Cotton Balls
- Green and Red Paint
- Gallon Bags
- Clear Ball Ornament
- Green Tissue Paper
- Strawberries, Green Grapes, Bananas, Marshmallows
Activity #1- Green Slime
This was a first for us. We have made play dough before but never slime. It was super easy and a HUGE hit. All you do is mix 1 cup corn starch with 1 cup of water and stir. Keep adding cornstarch to your desired consistency (I used about 1 more cup). I made sure to put plastic under her high chair and just gave her the bowl. She had a blast picking it up and watching it fall off her fingers.
Activity #2- Grinch Hand Puppet
I have always been a sucker for hand print activities. For this one we just put red paint on her fingers and green on her palm. Watch out for them making a fist, as you can see the colors mix. Then just add some cotton balls to make the santa hat and draw on a grinch face.
Activities #3- Fruit Snack
These were easy and delicious. My picky eater loved all of the ingredients and gobbled them up. I just used a tooth pick to assemble and used mini marshmallows for the ball of the hat.
Activity #4- Sensory Painting
I had to add something that even the littlest ones could do. All you need is a gallon ziplock bag, white paper, and green paint. Then just draw on a grinch face and yellow eyes, and let your kiddo rub the paint all around.
Activity #5- Grinch Ornaments
Once you have read the book and learned how the grinches heart grew three sizes, this is the perfect way to remember the moral of the story. We just took a clear ball ornament and filled it with green paper (you could use tissue as well) and added a red heart. We plan to put it on our tree every year after we read the book.
